BOE Recognizes John DiGiacomo, Pete White, and Angelo Rizzi for Life Saving Efforts
At our December Board of Education meeting, the Board and South Huntington community were proud to honor and recognize members of our staff who stepped up in a moment that called for courage, compassion, and decisive action.
On November 2nd, 2025, Walt Whitman High School played host to the Suffolk County Class A Girls Soccer Championship game between Sayville High School and Bayport Blue Point High School. Just prior to the start of the game, a call of a woman in distress in the parking lot came across the two-way radio. It was in those critical moments – when every second mattered — that members of our own staff stepped forward without hesitation.
The quick and decisive actions of Coach John DiGiacomo, Athletic Trainer Pete White, and Angelo Rizzi, our football team doctor from Orlin and Cohen, were crucial in the life saving efforts on this day.
Because of the quick, confident and selfless actions of these individuals, a life was saved.
John DiGiacomo (pictured), Pete White, and Angelo Rizzi recieved proclamations from Board of Education President Nicholas Ciappetta in recognition of their life saving actions.
On behalf of the Board of Education and South Huntington community, thank you to John DiGiacomo, Pete White and Angelo Rizzi for your courage, your quick thinking, and your unwavering commitment to helping others!
