Walt Whitman High School Centerstage Production of Radium Girls

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Radium Girls!
Walt Whitman High School’s fall production of Radium Girls told the story of the young women in the 1910s and 1920s who worked painting watch dials with glowing radium paint in U.S. factories. They were told the paint was harmless and instructed to “lip-point” their brushes by shaping the tips with their mouths. Over time, many developed severe radiation poisoning, suffering severe illnesses. When they sued their employers, their case led to major labor reforms and stricter workplace safety laws, marking a turning point in workplace health regulations. Special shoutout to director Dr. Turner Radin and Lamplighters Advisor Mr. Vito Monti for all of their hard work throughout the production. Thanks to Ms. Godbolt as well for helping out as always!
