South Huntington's Homecoming Weekend 2025

It was a fun-filled, festive Homecoming 2025 weekend with some perfect fall weather adding to the feeling of tradition that was in the air. There was something for all of our South Huntington families, from our youngest students to our high school juniors and seniors.
The antics started early on Friday morning with the traditional Powder Puff Run as our junior and senior participants in the Powder Puff game and Cheerleading competition ran through the high school in uniform and costume pumping up the enthusiasm for the contests. The 9th Period Pep Rally in the North Gym amped up the excitement even further with performances from the Whitman Choir, Whitman Varsity and JV Cheerleaders, the Whitman Kickats, Girls Varsity Gymnastics, Latino Heritage Club Dance Team, Caribbean Dance Team, and the Whitman Step Team.
Everyone then headed outside to the Walt Whitman High School parking lot for the Homecoming Carnival. There was music, inflatable rides, carnival games, a petting zoo, food trucks, and a return appearance by the beloved performers from Zabo’s Circus. The carnival wrapped up with the school’s annual bonfire, monitored and controlled by the Huntington Manor Fire Department. As the bonfire died down to a glow, everyone headed to the athletic field for Whitman’s Juniors vs. Seniors Powder Puff Football Game. The popular event sold out again this year.
The Whitman girls ran from end zone to end zone for touchdowns, and the boys performed their always-entertaining choreographed dance routines during halftime. After halftime, the audience was treated to a spectacular fireworks display before the Powder Puff game resumed. It was a Senior Sweep! The Senior girls won Powder Puff 30-24 and the Senior boys won the dance off.
The festivities continued on Saturday with a luncheon to honor this year’s inductees into the South Huntington Hall of Fame: Thomas Franklin, Class of 1984; Chris Kort, Class of 1990; and Nicholas Ciappetta, Class of 1997. A delicious luncheon (courtesy of South Huntington Nutrition Services) and induction ceremony was held at Whitman’s South Cafeteria.
Our Hall of Fame honorees next helped kick off the Homecoming Parade featuring the Stimson Middle School Marching Band, cheerleaders, class floats, clubs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and proud students, staff, and teachers from all of our South Huntington schools.
Then it was time for football! Before the start of the game, the South Huntington community took a moment to celebrate Whitman Head Football Coach Robin Rosa. Saturday night’s game was his final home regular season game and his last Homecoming as the Wildcats’ head football coach as he prepares to bring his time on the sidelines to a close after this season. And the team brought home a big win for Coach Rosa shutting out Riverhead 47-0.
Thank you to our entire South Huntington family and all our alumni who come out every year to make our Homecoming weekend such a success and proud tradition!
