As always, the commitment to academic excellence remains the cornerstone of our South Huntington School District. It is with this undertaking that we congratulate this year's Whitman inductees into the National Honor Society. This special recognition speaks volumes about a student's intellect, work ethic, character and deep-seated commitment to service to their school and community.

This year, more than 170 students were inducted into the Walt Whitman Chapter of the National Honor Society. “Becoming a member of the National Honor Society is not just about achieving high grades,” shared WWHS principal and keynote speaker, Dr. John Murphy. “It's really about one’s character and willingness to do what’s right even when no one is watching, an act of one whose leadership and service are guiding principles.”

Dr. Murphy shared with his students this reminder: “The real test of character often comes in quiet, everyday decisions. You’ll be faced with choices, some small, some life-changing. In those moments, lean on the values that brought you here. Lean on the lessons your parents taught you, the example your teachers set, and the sense of pride you feel tonight.”

Thank you to NHS advisor, Mrs. Gonzales, for your dedication, organization and genuine care for Whitman’s students to make events such as this possible. We are proud to recognize and congratulate these fine young scholars, as well as the dedicated teachers and supportive parents who contributed to their success.

NHS inductee Ryan Yuen was announced as the new National Honor Society president for next school year, along with the other 2025-2026 officers.

New inductees joined together in the South Cafeteria for a reception in celebration of their NHS membership.
