Sold Out Crowd, First Time Winners & Lots of Excitement at the Annual Lip Sing for Scholarships

On Friday, March 7th the South Huntington PTA Council hosted their annual Lip Sing for Scholarships event at the Walt Whitman High School Performing Arts Center (PAC). Teachers, staff, and administrators performed to a sold out PAC audience and more families watched the live streamed event from home. Every school’s performance fed the excitement, getting people to send in their votes for the one school they believed outshined the rest.
Our two amazing hosts, Superintendent Dr. Vito D'Elia, and Deputy Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Mr. Eddie Smith introduced each act and kept the event moving along smoothly. The performances throughout the night ranged from popular movies to decades favorites and throwback songs.
Everyone was so impressed by the creativity from each and every school. Even the students brought their creativity as they filled the audience with posters cheering on their schools, while some even came dressed coordinated with their school’s performance theme. Each school had perfectly coordinated costumes and choreography to go with their songs. Groups had lots of fun with props and even some confetti poppers to end their performances with a big bang.
After the performances concluded, it was Silas Wood Sixth Grade Center that took home the title of Lip Sing Champion, winning for the first time! Silas Wood principal Steve Toto, who admits he’s “very competitive” said, “It feels like I just won the Academy Award!” Ticket sales and votes purchased during and before the event raised thousands of dollars for senior scholarships that will directly benefit Walt Whitman students!
This year’s impressive performances and our enthusiastically loud audience show why Lip Sing for Scholarships is one of the most highly anticipated district events each year. We would like to thank all of our performers for bringing all the energy and enthusiasm, as well as to our sponsors whose generosity helped make this event happen. An extra special thank you to the South Huntington PTA Council for organizing and producing the event, the Lamplighters and advisor Vito Monti for their work backstage, and for everyone who was able to join us at this year’s Lip Sing for Scholarships event!
