Dear Parents/Guardians of Incoming Kindergarten Oakwood Students,
Welcome to the Oakwood Family! We hope you are enjoying your summer and can’t wait to meet you! In mid August you will receive a packet in the mail containing your child’s classroom teacher, as well as additional important information. At this time, we are excited to share that we are looking forward to bringing back our Kindergarten Parent/Student Orientation on the first day of school on September 5th.
Kindergarteners, along with their parents, are invited to participate in an orientation designed especially for you from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The orientation on September 5th will begin with bus transportation for both parent and child at your child’s designated bus stop. At the end of August, you will receive your child’s bus pass from Transportation to advise you of expected pick-up time for all school days following Orientation Day. Pick up on Orientation Day, September 5th, will be approximately two hours later than the time indicated on the bus pass. Should you prefer, you may, of course, drive you and your child to Oakwood for this parent/child orientation.
Upon arrival at the building, you and your child will proceed to your child’s classroom and meet your child’s teacher(s). You will then have an opportunity to learn more about our Kindergarten program and how you can get involved at Oakwood.
Following orientation, your child’s teacher will accompany you outside where our school buses will await you. Your child’s bus driver will then bring both you and your child back to your bus stop. I encourage you to use this opportunity to begin some discussion about bus safety rules and expectations regarding proper bus behavior.
Please be aware that all required immunizations must be completed and submitted to the Oakwood Health Office in order for your child to attend school on September 5th. As a reminder, under NYS Law, all new students must furnish proof of compliance with the immunization law. For your convenience, you may mail your immunization form to us. If you have any questions about your child’s immunizations or other health or medical questions or concerns they can be addressed to our school nurse, Ms. Falcone at (631) 812-3500 or via email at: hfalcone@shufsd.org.
Enjoy the remainder of the summer and we look forward to seeing you and your child on September 5th to begin the 2023-2024 school year!
PLEASE NOTE: If for any reason your plans have changed and your child will not be attending Oakwood Primary Center in September, please call us at the number posted above immediately. This will greatly assist us in placing newly-registered children into classes.
