Felicidades to the Walt Whitman High School students who were recognized by the Town of Huntington at the 29th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. The town works with its Hispanic Advisory Task Force to present this celebration and the Community Service, Scholarship, and Student Achievement Awards. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationwide from September 15th to October 15th.

After a welcome to all from Town Supervisor Ed Smyth, Walt Whitman sophomore Sarah Bruzual sang the national anthem. Another student performance came courtesy of the Latino Heritage Club of Walt Whitman High School. Our students performed several dance numbers for the audience, including one to music that was performed and recorded by student musicians from The Collective, Walt Whitman’s recording studio.

After the keynote address, and community service award presentations, 25 students from across the Town of Huntington were presented scholarships and/or student achievement awards. The South Huntington School District was honored to receive 14 of those awards.
