Homecoming Weekend 2023

Mark your calendars, South Huntington families! Friday, October 13th and Saturday, October 14th is Homecoming Weekend! And the entire community is invited!

The weekend kicks off on Friday with a 9th Period Pep Rally in the North Gym. It’s the school’s chance to show the Whitman Varsity Football Team their team spirit, and amp up the sportsmanship, tradition, pride and enthusiasm.

The action spills out into the Walt Whitman High School parking lot as the Homecoming Carnival gets started at 3:15pm. It’s fun for the whole South Huntington community with music, inflatable rides, carnival games, a petting zoo, food trucks and a return appearance by performers from Zabo’s Circus.

The Homecoming Bonfire tradition continues this year, but in a new location. Because of the new solar carports in the parking lot outside the North Gym, the bonfire is being moved to the Main Lot. The Huntington Manor Fire Department will be on hand to light the flames at 6:15pm.

Powder Puff players will take the field at 7pm on Friday night. There will be an admission fee for the game as a fundraiser for GSO (General Student Organization) - $5 at the gate, $3 in advance, and the opportunity to participate in the 50/50 and raffles. Halftime will feature the always highly-anticipated cheerleader competition between the junior and senior classes, and fireworks!

On Saturday, we start things off by honoring four Walt Whitman High School alumni inducting them into the South Huntington Hall of Fame: Eliot Lonardo, Class of 1996; Dara Reid Croft, Class of 1997; Ed Wu, Class of 2006; Brittany Schiavone, Class of 2007. We’ll hold a celebration breakfast and induction ceremony at 11am in the North Cafeteria.

Our honorees will then be part of the Homecoming Parade that heads out from Walt Whitman High School at 1pm with the Whitman and Stimson Middle School Marching Bands, Cheerleaders, Sports Teams, Class Floats, Clubs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and all South Huntington schools marching onto Jericho Turnpike and back through the community before turning back into Walt Whitman High School.

At 3pm it’s time to focus on the football field as the Homecoming Game gets underway. Whitman vs. Commack - GO WILDCATS!!!
