For the second year, the smiling faces of the graduating class of Walt Whitman High School are being proudly presented in the Senior Photo Gallery on the fence along the school entrance on West Hills Road. This allows the community to acknowledge and also celebrate the Class of 2023.

This new tradition began last year at the suggestion of Superintendent Dr. Vito D’Elia, who was wrapping up his first year as district superintendent, and thought it would be a fitting way to honor our students and all they’ve achieved. “This is the culmination of their public school education,” shared Dr. D’Elia. “I want them to have the opportunity to know that their school district cares tremendously about them and appreciates all their hard work and what they've been able to accomplish over their time here at South Huntington.”

Walt Whitman Principal Ken Costa agrees that this special showcase is a great way to let our graduates know how much the district appreciates all of their accomplishments and success throughout their many years in all the schools in the district. "We are all so proud of all of our students and they are the fabric of an amazing community,” said Mr. Costa. “The senior portraits are also a way to connect with our underclassmen, middle school, and elementary students in portraying our seniors as role models and encouraging those younger students that in several short years, they too will be memorialized on the graduation wall!"

As graduation quickly approaches, we wish to congratulate Whitman’s Seniors in this way to remind them that as they embark on the next chapter of their lives, Whitman will always be a place to call home and that they will always be Wildcats. It is our sincere hope that our seniors fondly reflect on their time spent at Walt Whitman and use all that they’ve learned to grow and find future successes in all aspects of their lives. All photos in the gallery on West Hills Road will be given to our seniors as a gift after the June 23rd graduation ceremony.

Again, congratulations to the Class of 2023 and remember…. Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat!
