Walt Whitman’s Freshman Class came up with a sweet way to spread the love this Valentine’s Day. This year has been full of challenges when trying to stay connected to loved ones, so our Freshman Class thought of a way to have people show they care while still staying socially distant. With this in mind, they designed and created lawn signs that say “You Have Been Hugged! By a South Huntington Student. Sending you lots of love and a socially distant hug!” Members of the community had the opportunity to purchase these signs for a loved one or friend that was sure to put a smile on their faces. Starting on the Friday before Valentine’s Day, those who purchased signs were able to pick them up from the high school, while volunteers from the Freshman Class personally delivered the signs to homes throughout South Huntington. They even made sure to make a special stop at the Carillon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to bring much-needed love and ‘hugs’ to the residents inside. Thank you to Principal John Murphy, Freshman Class Advisor Ms. Hirsch-Beckman, and her class officers for making this heart-felt event possible!
