Class of 2021

Principal's List

This year we are especially proud to see over 160 students receive the Principal's List Award, which is more than triple the amount of previous graduating classes.

Congratulations to our students recognized at this year’s annual Principal’s List ceremonies! It is with great pleasure to honor these young men and women not only for their academic prowess and fortitude, but for the continued mark they have made at Walt Whitman High School. It truly shows our community just how successful our alumni are and continue to be.

This year we are especially proud to see over 160 students receive this award, which is more than triple the amount of previous graduating classes. This class in particular is very special with regards to the obstacles that every one of them had to face over these last 15 months. The issues faced by each one of these students have allowed them to learn and grow, preparing them for the challenges that lie ahead outside of high school. The resiliency that this class has honed is something that will be such an asset as they continue on to succeed beyond the halls of Walt Whitman.

The class of 2021 entered high school with a hunger for knowledge and a maturity level well beyond their years. “I am truly blessed to have been able to see all of you grow into the men and women you are today,” shared proud principal, Dr. John Murphy. Coming towards the end of his last year as Walt Whitman’s Principal, Dr. Murphy found preparing for this event to be particularly difficult. “I did not realize how conflicted I would be with the conclusion of this school year, having this principal’s list ceremony be my last.”

Over the last four years, the staff and students alike have shared a special journey that will conclude with their anticipated graduation. With their last two years being affected by the global pandemic, the bond between this class and the high school staff and administration is especially strong. “A student's high school years are important, allowing them to grow and leave their mark on the building and staff,” Dr. Murphy shared with his seniors and their attending families, “The truth is I am not ready to let you all go. Unfortunately, this will be my last group of seniors as principal of Walt Whitman High School and I cannot think of a better class of students to end with.”

Thank you to the high school staff and administration for making this year’s ceremonies possible. Thank you to our Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dave Bennardo and the Board of Educations for being present as we commend our shining stars of Whitman. Congratulations to each of Walt Whitman High School’s Principal’s List Award recipients! We look forward to your continued growth and learning as you move beyond the halls of Walt Whitman and towards a lifetime of fulfillment.
