Fall Sports Recap

Monday

  • Varsity Football won big, 27-0, over William Floyd in a rematch of last spring’s County Championship!  Nicholas Bottoni went 13 of 25 for 226 yards and 3 passing TDs and added a rushing TD. Brandon Ivy had 7 catches for 166 yards and 2 TDs. Rasahn Thompson led the way on defense with 12 tackles, 3 of them for loss and 2 passes defended! Liam Villanti had a huge game, highlighted by his ‘heads up’ 24-yard punt return that led to a touchdown. Ivy added a key interception to clinch the shutout. The team opened up the scoring less than a minute into the game, when Tyriek Mays-Mckoy caught a TD from 18 yards out. Mays-Mckoy, Villanti, Luke Kannavos, Jacob Somer, JD Harrison each had 7 tackles in the strong defensive performance. The Wildcats are now 4-0 as they continue the season. The team's next game is tomorrow, Saturday, October 9th at Bayshore High School.

  • Girls Varsity Soccer defeated West Islip 1-0.  Gianna Paul scored the game-winner early in the 2nd half.  The Girls play Connetquot at 4:45 on Tuesday.

  • Boys Varsity Soccer upended Newfield by the score of 6-1.  The Wildcats got on the board quickly in the 2nd half when Wilmer Flores finished a through ball from Dylan Thody 2 minutes in.  Wilmer ended up with 2 goals and an assist.  Angel Catalan tallied 2 goals.  Javier Castro added a goal and an assist and David Lazaro chipped in with his first career Varsity goal.  Thody finished with 2 assists and Ethan Chandre added 1 assist.  Joseph Rodriguez and Sawyer Diamond combined for two saves to preserve the win. 
  • Girls JV Soccer added another victory to its record.  Paige Hiller and Alexa Schindler each had goals in the 2-0 win against West Islip.  Great defensive play by Evelyn Barrientos and Dakota Madrid.

Tuesday

  • The Girls Varsity Volleyball Team defeated Centereach 3 games to 2 last night in their Annual Dig Pink Match. Mia Stampfel had 29 digs and 9 aces, including a 12 point serving run in the deciding fifth set.  The offense was carried by Judy Anest, Gianna Conte, Allie Fink, Katelyn Adams and Lorianna Mattutat. JV Girls Volleyball defeated Centereach 3-0.

  • The Varsity Gymnastics team won its meet against Hampton Bays with some excellent performances. Great job Meghan Murray on the balance beam for the first time. Nice job Brielle Browne improving her score by almost a full point. Way to go Julia Dean adding a new skill on the uneven bars. Thanks to Becca Horner for all her help.

Wednesday

  • Yesterday the girls varsity soccer team defeated Connetquot by a score of 3-0.  Olivia DelPriore scored a goal and Gianna Paul added 2 goals and 1 assist.  The defense of Ella Brower, Lizzie Schrieber, Kayla McCann, Kallie Eichner and Melanie Smuss played solid on defense.  Ashli Wuss made 9 saves in goal for her second straight shutout. Great win girls!

Thursday

  • Varsity Field Hockey beat Newfield on Wednesday 5-0.  Mia Brunetti, Kristy Chillemi, Brianna Morrissey, Kasey McArdle and Shaelyn Scharpf all had goals for Whitman. Jillian Vesque recorded her 5th shutout of the season.  The girls play again on Friday against William Floyd at 4:45pm.
  • Although the Girls Varsity Swim team lost to Hauppauge/Smithtown, Isabelle Alvear, Maya Wedner, Ashly Palacious, Melanie Alvarado, Owen Murray, and Olivia Beck all swam well.
  • Whitman Golf came from behind to beat Commack on their Senior Day Wednesday afternoon. Senior Silvana Pawa encouraged and supported her teammates throughout the match. Seniors Declan Motherway and Amanda Esposito displayed their talents against the Cougars. Senior Jonathon Holleran outshot one of the best golfers in the league by one stroke.  Senior Owen Connolly and juniors Colin Murphy and Nick Abrescia also outshot their opponents. Senior Chris Bonilla was able to win his match by four strokes giving the team a match point. And senior William Schiller beat his opponent by 8 strokes and helped Whitman secure 3 team points, securing the win 5-4.  The Whitman golf team will travel to Spring Lake Golf Course for the League Tournament on October 18th. Friday

  • Varsity Gymnastics competed against William Floyd with some great performances. Carly McEntee scored 1st on balance beam and floor exercise. Ava Colbert had a confident performance on the balance beam.
  • Boys Varsity Soccer Team defeated Northport yesterday by the score of 3-1. Angel Catalan got the Wildcats on the board with a shot into the upper corner from 25 yards out. Catalan put the team ahead with a rebound goal with 31 minutes left. JP Paiva netted the insurance goal with 28 minutes left. Please come out and support the team at their next home game on Saturday vs. Lindenhurst at 1pm.
  • Girls Varsity Tennis won 5-2 over Lindenhurst.  The teams of Chelsea Carino & Alyssa Burke and Eliana Montague & Emily Redelman dominated their matches. Natalie Gugliuzza, Sophia Goldberg, and Eliana Kazin had amazing wins to lead singles.

  • Girls JV Volleyball defeated Commack to improve to 14-1. Megan Rankel, Brianna Verga, Lindsay Alms, and Riley Bert were dominant at the net.  Dani Probst, Sara Duffy, and Riley McDonnell played excellent defense.
