Video Yearbook 2020

Recap

The premier of Video Yearbook is a highly anticipated event that our high school seniors look forward to each year. Students work tirelessly throughout the school year to capture all of the action that makes their senior year so memorable. From Powder Puff to Girls Sports Night, Homecoming to senior games, and all of the hilarious skits created in between, it’s no wonder why students look forward to watching this culmination of special memories.

This year has been unlike years past for countless reasons, but the current situation did not deter our Video Yearbook crew from producing a unique experience for their fellow classmates. With only months of footage to work with, it was unfortunate that the Class of 2020 was not able to experience milestone events in traditional fashion. “When school had to close in March, both Yearbook and our school's Video Yearbook were not finished, and the senior leaders of the club decided to finish the project from home,” shared club advisor Mr. Paquette, “The event provided a lot of much needed laughs and tears to the senior class.”

On July 17th, with a 40-foot projection screen set up in the Walt Whitman High School faculty parking lot thanks to the Long Island Motion Picture Arts Center and Museum, students experienced an outdoor drive-in Video Yearbook premier that has never been done before. Seniors parked their cars, made themselves comfortable and spent the evening tuning their radios to hear the hilarious skits of their classmates and reminisce from a much simpler time. Chief Editor of VY Mycaela Reilly said, "Seeing our finished product on the big screen in front of everyone really made all of the hard work during the year worth it."

We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who made this year’s VY day possible! Thank you to Chief Editor Kate Jenkins and Executive Lead Editor Emily Murphy for putting together the 2020 Yearbook. Thank you to Video Yearbook Chief Editor Mycaela Reilly and Executive Lead Editor Nohl Schwandtner for giving your classmates an unforgettable VY. Thank you to our facilities staff for helping to make this unique event come to life. And thank you to our yearbook staff and volunteers from the Walt Whitman PTA for distributing VY and the 2020 Yearbook for our Seniors to enjoy for years to come.

Spectators tuned their radios and rolled down the windows as these students opted for a better view atop their cars.

Club advisor Mr. Roger Paquette stood with his VY and Yearbook crew, all dressed in red, after a successful Video Yearbook premier in Walt Whitman High School's faculty parking lot.

With fireworks off in the distance and a VY premier like no other, it was truly a memorable evening for our 2020 Seniors.
