Harpreet Rattu is an 8th student at Henry L. Stimson Middle school who currently holds the title of Miss Empire Star’s Outstanding Teen. She began competing in the Miss America Outstanding Teen Pageant system with her older sister in 2019. Harpreet is an active member of the community, working with organizations to support her platform of “Soldiers’ Angels: Supporting America.” As an advocate for this organization, she assists in collecting items with her school district to create care packages to be sent to service members stationed overseas.
As the sister of a United States soldier, Harpreet felt this cause to be near and dear to her heart, and so, she works tirelessly to support those serving and protecting our country. “I want to do as much as I can to help our soldiers,” Harpreet shared. Her sister, Walt Whitman alumna Inpreet Rattu, who is currently deployed, described how much they need and how difficult it is to receive basic necessities overseas. The idea then sparked and Harpreet felt motivated to begin this initiative while including her community for help. “These people are risking their lives everyday and I think that having necessities like these are very important, especially in times like this when it’s hard to get them.” After assembling as many as she can, Harpreet’s care packages will be sent overseas with additional help from Blue Star Moms, a private non-profit organization that provides support for mothers who have sons or daughters in active service in the U.S. Armed Forces.
“This is something I’m very passionate about and our Stimson family really showed their generosity,” Harpreet shared as she embraced the overflowing amount of donations provided before the December holiday break. Harpreet will be competing for the title of Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen as the pandemic clears to continue to show her strong support for our service men and women. We wish Harpreet good luck along with an extension of gratitude for taking part in this amazing cause to support our troops!
