Rich Morel Set to Play

Soccer for Marist

Congratulations to senior Richard Morel on signing to play soccer for Marist College! Rich is a senior at Walt Whitman High School who has been playing soccer for about 14 years, and has been the varsity team's striker for 3 years. Rich has been captain of the high school team, holding All-League, All-County, All-State, and All-Region titles. With sports seasons looking a bit different this year, Rich is looking forward to the start of the modified Fall season with their game against Amityville on March 10th. “It’s going to be a good game,” shared Rich, as he spoke of the former County Champions, "We always wanted to play them but they were never in our league so I’m excited to have a chance to.” It is this type of competitive edge that gives the senior a noteworthy advantage. As Rich looks beyond his senior year and into the start of his career as a collegiate athlete, he looks forward to the next level of competition in a college atmosphere. “[Marist] is a really competitive school and they usually make conference tournament finals.”

As the team’s striker, Rich is no stranger to the goal line. One of his fondest memories from playing for Whitman’s Varsity Soccer team is making the game changing goal at County’s in 2019 and the unwavering support from his teammates and coaches on the sideline. As he moves onward to play at the next level, Rich encourages his younger teammates to push themselves academically, emphasizing that earning the right grades coincides with their performance on the field. Congratulations Rich and good luck!
