We are so excited to announce Oakwood’s Teacher of the Year, Ms. Erica Perez-Flowers! Ms. Perez-Flowers is a dedicated and well-loved Speech and Language Therapist serving our Oakwood students with her love, care and expertise. Erica joined South Huntington in 2014 and has been making a difference in the lives of children ever since. Since being a part of the South Huntington family, Erica’s dedication to the profession, commitment to students and families, and providing a nurturing environment to her students has been the testament to her educational mission.
Erica is a champion for the diverse population of students she serves. Ms. Perez-Flowers displays this through the way she engages her students to care about themselves, their education, and the way they interact and treat others. Ms. Flowers also assists families as she uses her warm interpersonal skills to be an advocate for the families of her students.
Erica serves on committees such as School Based Management, Bilingual Advisory Council, and the Health and Safety committee with the goal of enhancing the educational experience for her students. Erica’s positive impact does not stop at her classroom doors. Erica demonstrates the importance of giving back to your community by participating in charitable organizations such as The Salvation Army Angel, Maggie’s Mission, and Smile Train.
