It is our honor and privilege to introduce South Huntington's Teacher of the Year, Ms. Noreen Scileppi. Noreen has been a speech and language teacher in South Huntington since 2000. She is currently the "lead teacher'' for our after school Friendship Project, as well as was an active member of our SBM team, helping to brainstorm and bring to fruition several school wide SEL programs for the improvement of our school community. Ms. Scileppi is a member of our building BEST team and on a regular basis contributes thoughts and suggestions as we brainstorm ways to assist teachers in helping their neediest students.
In speaking to Noreen's colleagues they all described her qualities for being named teacher of the year as someone who is a mentor, a go to person for colleagues and parents, a resource, and an advocate for our neediest students. They went on to say that Noreen is kind, caring, dedicated, and above all else a strong advocate for her students and their needs. She works tirelessly with her students, and their families, to make sure they are receiving the most that they can out of their speech sessions, and she takes pride in celebrating the progress that they make while working with her.
In speaking to both former and current parents they described Ms. Scileppi in a similar fashion; dedicated, receptive, excellent clinician, and accurate reader of needs. They all pointed to Ms. Scileppi's parent communication as another area of strength. They shared that she maintains a speech notebook, which goes back and forth, allowing the parents to know exactly what is being worked on, and also serves as a communication tool as well.
Congratulations, Ms. Noreen Scileppi on being named Countrywood's Teacher of the Year and South Huntington's Teacher of the Year!
