Congratulations to Maplewood Intermediate School's Teacher of the Year, Ms. Susan Teeter! Susan Teeter has been a Library Media Specialist in the South Huntington School District for 16 years. Although she is highly respected as a specialist in her area, she is revered by her students and colleagues as a support for so much more. We are so proud that she has been chosen as Maplewood’s Teacher of the Year.
Sue understands the importance of providing students with a variety of book choices from various cultural backgrounds. She knows that in order to engage students, you need to make personal connections and then expand who they are as readers. Sue also has a passion for technology. She incorporates current learning platforms into her curriculum that support both virtual and in-person instruction. She has been integral in supporting her colleagues with the use of technology, especially when we moved to distance learning in the Spring of 2020. As part of the well-rounded curriculum she provides for her students, Sue develops STREAM activities to teach our students about researching and coding. Sue is also an active member of her professional organizations, and regularly attends meetings and training sessions to continually improve her craft.
Aside from her professional contributions, it is Sue’s genuine concern for people that is her greatest attribute. She is one of the “go to” people among the staff for personal support, whether it’s for a colleague, student or one of our South Huntington families. Sue approaches every situation with compassion and sensitivity. She is very humble and does not feel she is deserving of any accolades. This is even more evidence that she works from her heart and has a true love for what she does. Her kind spirit and smile can brighten anyone’s day. Susan Teeter is a true gem among the Maplewood staff and we are proud to call her Maplewood's Teacher of the Year!
