The Whitman Marching Band season might have been cancelled, but the band was able to put together a small performance earlier this school year to recognize our two graduating seniors. Abby Dinstell and Aidan Garemani have been with the program over four years and while they were unable to perform at competitions this year, they were able to have one last performance with the marching band and share their experiences with the younger members!
While the band could not perform together as a whole, the five sections that makeup the marching band performed individual selections. Highlights of the Halloween performance included an arrangement of Ghostbusters, an arrangement of the Rocky theme song featuring the brass section, and individual compositions for the color guard and percussion sections.
"I am most proud of the marching band staff and students being able to cope with the current situation,” shared Marching Band Director Mr. Greg Modelewski. “Through the summer, we were able to hold successful virtual rehearsals and thanks to the administration, we were able to hold a small performance. The energy the students had was truly heartwarming and it really shows the kind of culture we are building as a program but more importantly, as a family. We will miss our two seniors but look forward to getting back on the field soon.”
Last year, the marching band graduated 12 seniors and despite the season being cut significantly short, the marching band recruited over 25 new members to its highest enrollment in recent years. We look forward to seeing the marching band compete together again in the future and wish our graduating seniors the best of luck!
