On Friday, March 11, 2022, the South Huntington Council of PTAs hosted the second annual Lip Sing for Scholarships event. In its first year, the event was completely virtual, where viewers could watch the performances from home and send in their votes for who they believed outperformed the rest. This year, we were thrilled to host the event live and in person at Walt Whitman High School, where the Performing Arts Center was filled with excitement from all of our district students and families supporting their school teachers and administration.
With our gracious hosts Superintendent Dr. Vito D’Elia and Assistant Superintendent Dr. John Murphy, the night went off without a hitch. The well-dressed duo introduced our performing acts and made special note to thank our sponsors, who aided in making this year’s event possible. The performances from each of our school buildings delighted students in the crowd and brought so much excitement to viewers, both in person and at home watching virtually.
We were incredibly impressed by the creativity of our staff as they took the stage in perfectly planned costumes and choreography to match. At the end of the night it was Oakwood Primary School that claimed the title of Lip Sync Champions for the second year in a row! While each of our schools had incredible routines, they were no match for Ms. Nuncio’s and Ms. Scacco’s performance from Encanto. Ticket sales and votes purchased during the event were used to raise money for senior scholarships, and this year, we were able to raise about $6,000 that will directly benefit Whitman students!
From every song choice to every tremendous dance move, it truly was a night to remember. We would like to thank all of our performers for making this show so much fun to watch as well as to our sponsors whose generosity helped make this event happen. A special thank you to our volunteers, Mr. David Rickmers and The Lamplighters, Taylor Mankowski, Meegan Rose, Maureen Basedow, Laurel Addis, Fred Scragg and Joseph Occhiuto as well as all our district administration, building principals, PTA presidents, sponsors, volunteers, Thomas Ciravolo, Liz DeMonte, Lauren Sosa and to everyone who was able to join us for this year’s Lip Sing for Scholarships event! We hope you have enjoyed this show as much as we have enjoyed putting it together!
