Isabella Weber, an incoming freshman at Walt Whitman High School, was announced as one of the winners of Governor Cuomo’s ‘Get a Shot to Make Your Future’ incentive!
In May of this year, Governor Cuomo announced a new vaccine incentive program for the young people of New York - it’s called ‘Get a Shot to Make Your Future.’ This weekly drawing is meant to motivate 12- to 17-year olds to get vaccinated for a chance to win one of 50, four-year full-ride scholarships. Winners of this raffle will receive a full scholarship to any SUNY or CUNY school, including tuition, room and board, and expenses.
Every week, ten winners are chosen at random to win this scholarship. In its second to last week of winners, one of Whitman’s newest Wildcats has won! Weber was one of two students from Suffolk County to win this week, and she was shocked when receiving the news. “I wasn’t expecting to win because it was such a big number of people who entered. This is life changing, so I was really happy to hear that I was selected,” shared Isabella. As an incoming freshman, Isabella is interested in pursuing a career in law when it comes time to start applying to colleges. Now that she is fully vaccinated, Isabella feels better knowing she does not have to worry about contracting the virus. She looks forward to being able to see her family and friends, and feeling safe to go out again.
“Thank you to Governor Cuomo for the opportunity and creating this scholarship,” expressed Isabella’s mother, Christina, “This truly is life changing. We are blown away and very grateful.”
On behalf of the South Huntington community, congratulations Isabella Weber!
