Congratulations to Walt Whitman’s Varsity Football team on their first win at home on Friday night! The team faced Sachem East for an exciting ‘white-out’ event that drew in a crowd of enthusiastic spectators. Nearly 1,000 fans came out to support the students and programs at WWHS and the fun night makes us all the more excited for our homecoming weekend in October. It was truly amazing to see such Whitman pride at the varsity team's first home game of the season. Nicholas Bottoni went 14/19 for 150 yards and a TD to Chris Silverio. The team scored 4 rushing TDs with AJ Evans running for 100 yards on 12 carries and Johnny Maldonado having 63 yards on 8 with 2 TDs. The O-Line paved the way once again and all receivers equally contributed. Tyriek Mays-Mckoy had 12 tackles, 5 for loss and 2 sacks on defense, and Liam Villanti had 10 tackles, 3 TFLs and a sack. Adam Arevalo went a perfect 5 for 5 on extra points and had 2 big plays on kickoff. The team would like to thank the school for all of its support and will travel to William Floyd Saturday afternoon in a rematch of last year's County Championship. The team’s record stands at 3-0. Keep it up, Wildcats!!
