Highlights from

International Night

In tribute to the National Foreign Language Week, Walt Whitman’s World Language Honor Society hosted their annual International Night. This year’s theme of “Celebrate Humanity Through Language'' was beautifully represented by Whitman’s talented students. The yearly event held just before Spring Break aided in fundraising for Unicef with an array of great international foods to sample, while guests enjoyed dance routines and musical numbers in the high school’s Performing Arts Center.

Sophomore Anthony Maraboli started off the evening with an impressive improvisation of Spain by Chick Corea on the piano, capturing the audience and beginning the night on such a high note. Taking the stage for our first set of dance performances were Irish Step Dancers from the Mulvihill-Lynch Studio of Irish Dance, followed by the Walt Whitman High School Step Team who took the stage with perfect rhythm.

Talented Senior Alexandra Garden performed Incancellabile by Laura Pausini, followed by sophomore Priscilla Ramirez Grajeda performing Tarantella Napoletana and Jarabe Taptio on the accordion. Continuing with musical performances on stage were senior Salma Laraki and sophomore Erika Moreira Tomasino together performing La Vie en Rose by Edith Piaf beautifully.

Walt Whitman’s Latino Heritage Club presented various dance numbers, commanding the stage and catching the attention of our impressed audience before returning to beautiful piano pieces by freshmen Sienna Leaver, playing Nuvole Bianche by Ludovico Einaudi, and Madeleine Bas playing Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy. Concluding the evening of musical performances was a duet by juniors Marc Malafronte on the cello and Anthony Maida on the piano.

The evening was a tremendous success as celebrations for National Foreign Language week and fundraising donations for Unicef continued. Thank you all who participated and to our community for their generosity! Great job by World Language Honor Society officers Daniella Sotello Guardado, Magaly Garay, Owen Connolly, Kaitlin Guttier, Tiziana Orona-Gaber, Salma Laraki, Sofia Caporusso, and Annabella Sciberras, the club’s advisor, Ms. Aileen D'Addario, and to our World Language Department and Building Administration for all of their support!
