Gianna Paul,

All-American Student-Athlete

Walt Whitman High School Senior Gianna Paul has earned a place on the United Soccer Coaches Fall High School Girls All-American team amongst other players across the country. Ms. Paul was able to achieve this award with her outstanding academic performance, along with her phenomenal soccer talent. On March 9th, she was recognized at the Board of Education meeting for her well-earned accomplishments and contributions to the athletics program in South Huntington.

In speaking with her, she explained how she was introduced to the sport of Soccer at a very young age, as she used to go with her family and watch her older sister play. “Then they threw me in there and I fell in love with it,” Gianna said of her first experiences playing soccer.

Prior to playing for Walt Whitman, Gianna Paul played for the outer district academy, Long Island Soccer Club. Paul commented on the nature of an outside academy soccer team, where the competition is intense and the players are extremely talented. In addition to Whitman Varsity Soccer, she currently plays for SUSA Academy during the Whitman off-season.

Paul has wanted to play soccer at Walt Whitman since the seventh grade and she finally joined the school team as a junior. Her experience has been nothing but positive. “It helped with bonds and friendships that I never thought would even have started,” Paul said. “Not only did it help with friendships, it helped with the academy team because my foot skills got so good from there.”

As an adroit athlete she was able to experience playing with different people, and one of the highlights of her time on Whitman’s team were the night games. “Playing under the lights, having all of your friends there, all the parents, all the opposing parents, it’s just so nice,” Paul said. She added that night games weren’t something you’d experience often in club ball. “I wish I could do that again,” she said.

She is currently committed to play for the Division I team at the University of Alabama and is ecstatic to be playing for the Crimson Tide.

The twice named All-American was recognized at our recent Board of Education meeting, both for her legendary season on the soccer field and for her past participation as a track and field athlete. “We are so proud of Gianna for earning this tremendous honor,” said David Barth, Supervisor of Physical Education, Health, Athletics and Recreation. “She is a terrific representative of the South Huntington School District and a true leader on and off the soccer field.”

“Gianna embodies everything that we look for in a student-athlete," Barth concluded.

The Board of Education congratulated Gianna with the honorary Key to the District, alongside Supervisor of Athletics, Mr. David Barth (right), and Varsity Soccer Coaches Mr. Mike Moccia and Mrs. Tiana Clifford (left).
