Celebrating The

Hour of Code

Before the holidays during Computer Science Week, WWHS students from Mrs. Savelli’s and Mr. Feraco’s computer science classes helped our elementary students celebrate The Hour of Code. Coding or programming is an interactive way to create step-by-step instructions to tell the computer what to do. Each day during the week of December 6th, students were introduced to coding and design activities that prompted creativity and new technology skills with help from our high school students. It is wonderful to see our students so engaged and enjoying coding in such an interactive and hands-on way.

A great time was had by all at Maplewood as students are still talking about their high school role models!

Under the direction of Mrs. D'Elia, students completed a week of activities dedicated to improving their coding skills with a special holiday twist.

Birchwood's students were eager to show off their coding creations.

A huge thank you to students from Walt Whitman High School who went to Countrywood to assist many of the teachers and their students with fun, hands-on coding activities.

We were so impressed by how quickly our youngest students at Oakwood caught on to coding with help from our Whitman computer science students.
