Brittany's Baskets of

Hope on TODAY

On World Down Syndrome Day, Walt Whitman alum Brittany Schiavone was featured on the TODAY Show, spreading the uplifting message of her nonprofit Brittany’s Baskets of Hope. Founded in 2014, the premise of Brittany’s Baskets of Hope is to create care packages for families who are expecting or recently welcomed a baby with Down Syndrome into their lives.

As part of their mission, Brittany and her team create and deliver baskets to celebrate the arrival of babies with Down Syndrome that include informational and guiding literature for parents, along with gifts of love and joy for their new baby. While much of the operation and assembling of these care packages take place in Brittany’s basement, her headquarters was in need of a renovation to equal her initiative and drive. Brittany’s mission inspired George Oliphant, host of NBC’s “George to the Rescue,” to take action to completely redo her home office and work space. The pair joined the hosts of the TODAY Show to talk about this surprise of a lifetime as well as their journey together in spreading her message.

As stated on the TODAY Show, Brittany advocates for herself and others with the same determination she has shown throughout her life, creating community outreach that emphasizes inclusion. We are thrilled to see how her compassion spreads hope and continues to touch the lives of families in the most beautiful way!
