2022 Festival of the Arts

Showcases District Artists

The litany of talented acts at this year’s South Huntington Festival of the Arts truly shined a light on the district’s distinct Fine Arts program. Parents and community members, with South Huntington’s young musicians, poets and artists leading the way, enjoyed a gallery-like setting where the creativity of our students could be marveled and appreciated through an array of musical acts and performances.

Spectators were also welcomed into Walt Whitman’s South Cafeteria, displaying a number of  beautiful pieces of student artwork while enjoying  many musical and live performances from a variety of students across all grade levels. The featured acts including Stimson’s Jazz Band directed by Greg Modelewski, Birchwood and Maplewood’s choral groups led by Mr. Kozak and Ms. Melilo, the Silas Wood Strings, Whitman’s Varsity Dance Team, Step Team, Latino Heritage Club, WWHS Theater and Chorale, The Collective, and much much more. The courtyard outside of Whitman’s South Cafeteria gave performers and spectators plenty of fresh air and space to enjoy the many talented acts by our students on the beautiful afternoon.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to South Huntington's amazing team of teachers, administrators, artists, musicians, vocalists, dancers, poets and actors whose talents created a spectacular Festival of the Arts event for 2022! A special thank you to our Facilities Department, who without their efforts and hard work, this Festival could not have been made possible. Bravo to all whose talents and dedication provided an extraordinary celebration of the Arts! We appreciate the dedication all have shown to keep arts in South Huntington alive and well.

Students and parents enjoyed the display of artworks in Whitman's South Cafeteria, including handmade masks created in Mr. Rickmer's art classes.

Stimson's Orchestra performed just before Silas Wood Strings performed in the outdoor courtyard.

Silas Wood's Chorus, directed by Ms. Vanessa Riva, added rhythm to their beautiful vocals.

We were thrilled to have Whitman's Varsity Dance Team bring their energy to the wonderful list of creative acts.

Maplewood and Birchwood joined together to perform for parents under the direction of Ms. Zaykowski and Ms. Brasch.

Stimson's Jazz Choir hit all the right notes!

Whitman's dancers moved effortlessly in their beautiful routine.

The list of acts included original poetry by our high school students.

Students from Birchwood and Maplewood were happy to perform a song from this year's musical, "Jukebox Time Machine."

Whitman's Jazz Band impressed with a great set of tunes.

Senior Hannah Albert played and sang "Jolene" on acoustic guitar.
