Located on the north shore of Long Island in Western Suffolk County, Silas Wood Sixth Grade Center is part of the South Huntington Union Free School District and serves nearly 500 sixth-grade students. Our dedicated staff always puts their best efforts forward to ensure that each child reaches their academic goals in a safe, positive, and healthy environment. Our goal is to help students make this transition to middle school as smoothly as possible, while fostering a caring and nurturing learning environment where they are taught to make positive choices, treat others respectfully, and look beyond themselves in their daily decision making. Students are also encourages to make positive contributions to their local community and society. At Silas Wood, the staff strives to advance the achievement of all students by creating and maintaining an academically rigorous environment where students are supported so that all of them have the opportunity to meet their maximum potential. We promote academic growth, self-respect, and respect for the dignity and diversity of others. It is our goals to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student and help each one of them strengthen their character. We pride ourselves in our ability to foster a spirit of collaboration and cooperation in all of its efforts to enrich and educate our students.
