Maria Colón to be Recognized at the 37th Annual Dr. MLK Commemorative Celebration Oakwood

Mr. Joyner made the announcement that our own Assistant Principal Maria Colon will be recognized for her outstanding community service and her dedication to education at the 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration on February 26, 2022. Mr. Joyner shared that this celebration, rich in history with the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, which Mr. Joyner is a member, will be on a virtual platform, and the keynote speaker was the NYS Attorney General Letitia James. Mr. Joyner proudly spoke of Maria’s selection to this well-known and highly respected level of achievement that speaks volumes of her commitment to community, education, and the guiding principles of Alpha Phi Alpha, including scholarship, fellowship, good character and uplifting of humanity. Mr. Joyner shared that the virtual event will be global with thousands of attendees from all over the world. He shared this prominent service-oriented fraternity had included renowned Thurgood Marshall and many other esteemed individuals who dedicated their lives for the betterment of our community at large. In closing, Mr. Joyner congratulated Maria Colon for this great honor and how pleased and proud he was to make this announcement.
