Each year, the New York State Department of Health notifies a sample of public school districts to report the student weight status category and health conditions of children attending schools, i.e. Body Mass Index (BMI).  BMI is a part of the required school health examination and is referenced to assess the prevalence of childhood obesity.  This school year, South Huntington School District was selected to collect this information in grade levels PreK, K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 from the previous school year (2018).  This information will be submitted to the NYSDOH by January 30, 2020.  No personal identifying information about individual students will be included in this survey.  Parents/guardians, if you want your child's information to be excluded from the survey then contact the school nurse by January 2, 2020.  For more information about this reporting requirement, click here
