Birchwood and Maplewood Project Excel students recently participated in a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-a-Wish Foundation grants life-changing wishes to critically ill children. Project Excel students encouraged their classmates to write letters to Santa and the Universe for the Macy’s Department Store fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. On Believe Day, Macy’s donates $2 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for each letter written. With the help of Project Excel and the student’s in their classes, Birchwood raised $878 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation through letter writing. Project Excel students also sold ornaments and hung them throughout the building, raising $358. Along with the ornaments, the staff raised $388 at their staff holiday party. Some of the donations included in the staff party raffles were Laser Lounge, and Sobel’s, Walt Whitman graduates and store owners. The Project Excel students at Birchwood raised a total of $1,624 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation! This donation was presented to Diane DeNicola, who is the community outreach representative for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and is also a Walt Whitman graduate. After gratefully accepting Birchwood’s donation, Diane visited Maplewood where their students participated in similar fashion. Project Excel students at Maplewood sold ornaments and raised $500 to be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Both of our district’s primary students did an amazing job at presenting this cause to their classmates and we are so proud of everything they’ve contributed!
