WWHS Students and Staff Compete in 2024 Lip Sync Battle

Written by Liz DeMonte | Apr 18, 2024 8:12:53 PM

This year marks the seventh anniversary of Walt Whitman High School hosting another memorable Lip Sync Battle fundraiser for the Senior Class. The tradition consists of students battling teachers and staff in an array of entertaining performances that never disappoints.

At the close of all the battles, the audience was invited to vote on their favorite act and the winner with the most votes was granted bragging rights, in addition to a $100 grand prize to Umberto's Pizzeria. Congratulations to the overall winner of this year’s battle, Alex Feliciano, for his spot-on performance of ‘Billie Jean’ by Michael Jackson!

Thank you to everyone for supporting the Class of 2024!  The evening serves as a fundraiser for the senior class under the advisory of Ms. Diane Langhorst-Zamow and she would like to thank all who participated and came out to support the senior class.

Thank you to Senior Class advisor, Ms. Zamow and the Senior Class officers for organizing one of Whitman’s most fun events. Big thank you to Mr. Rickmers and the Lamplighters who literally ‘saved’ the show.  Thanks to the talented Jaren Smullian who stepped up to be a co-emcee for the show along with Mr. Varlamos, and, of course, thank you to our three wonderful judges - Mr. Graziano (his last time judging Lip Sync Battle before he retires), Mr. Miranda and Mr. Karavias. We were impressed by all of our students and staff who took the stage!

The evening started with a student performance of Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Mr. Yolango and Mr. Rex dressed as students to perform “All Star” by Smash Mouth for their Lip Sync win.

The choreography by Makayla Lewis and Dayaneliz Veliz made for an unforgettable performance of ‘Hot in Here’ by Nelly.

Mrs. Kim Latko cannot wait to be king!  With her Dr. Murphy puppet in hand, Diet Coke and all, the crowd had a blast watching her perform “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” from Disney’s Lion King.

Alex Feliciano took the overall win for the evening with his impressive lip sync skills and Michael Jackson dance moves – moonwalk and everything!

Thank you to our three wonderful judges - Mr. Karavias, Mr. Miranda and Mr. Graziano, who provided us with some great laughs and judgment calls.

Great job by all the performers in this year's Faculty vs. Student Lip Sync Battle!
