Walt Whitman dance students took the stage at the Tilles Center as part of the 2022 Stage the Change, Arts as a Social Voice conference.  We are proud to extend our congratulations to Whitman’s Dance Program whose piece, “Shattered,” was chosen to perform at this year’s conference on November 18th at the Tilles Center in Brookville. Stage the Change is an arts program that uses the arts to inspire social change.  It aims to move students to become global citizens through creativity and performance.

The intensity and emotion of the original choreography of “Shattered,” a dance that addresses the use of cell phones and social media, stood out to the selection panel in a year where the amount of entries surpassed all previous years.  This is the 20th year of Walt Whitman’s Dance Program under the direction of Dr. Susan Turner Radin. Dr. Radin is the recipient of the 2022 H. Alan Robinson Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, which was established to honor a doctoral candidate who has submitted an outstanding dissertation worthy of scholarly and professional recognition.

Congratulations to our Walt Whitman High School Dancers and to Dr. Radin on being selected to perform this powerful piece!

Whitman dancers from Modern II and Modern III classes performed “Shattered” at the Tilles Center.

The day-long conference offered Whitman’s dance students and Theater Honor Society members the opportunity to dive deeper into how the arts is used as a creative outlet to voice the need for social change.
