The National Merit Scholarship® Program has now determined which of the 16,000 Semifinalists named in September 2022 met all requirements to advance to Finalist standing in the competition. Congratulations to Walt Whitman High School Seniors Ned Hunter and Anthony Maida who have officially been named Finalists in the 2023 Competition for National Merit Scholarship Awards!

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. Each year, high school students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). All finalists are considered for National Merit Scholarship Awards to be offered in 2023.

Hunter and Maida are two of approximately 16,000 high school seniors that have qualified as Semifinalists in the fall, and have since met several requirements to advance to Finalist standing. They now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships to be offered this spring.

Congratulations, Ned and Anthony!
