Maplewood Visits High School for Science Research Experience District

Recently, Maplewood students from Ms. Cristine’s class visited Walt Whitman High School’s Research program, in an effort to provide our younger Wildcats a first hand research experience. Our high school research students taught these inquisitive third graders about different types and importance  of research, including how to program drones, exploring microbiology using the microscope, testing chemical parameters of salt water, creating and coding electrical circuits, and more. With the help of Island Fish and Scale LLC, students also learned how to propagate corals and explore different marine organisms. They even got to experience a virtual reality interface and explore AI computer vision.

Thank you to our high school students, Mr. Feraco and Mr. Karavias for welcoming Maplewood’s students in an engaging morning of science research! A special thank you to Island Fish and Scale LLC of Commack for your expertise and giving our students a truly hands-on experience.

Island Fish and Scale, a local aquarium business in Commack, guided students as they learned how to propagate coral and explore different marine organisms.

Students took a closer look as they explored microbiology using powerful microscopes at the high school.

It was an exciting experience as students took their turn using a virtual reality interface.

Thank you to our teachers, students and visitors for making this a memorable morning for Ms. Cristine’s class!
