Halloween in South Huntington District

Halloween always offers our district the opportunity to have fun in the most creative and spirited ways. Students of all ages had the opportunity to celebrate throughout the district with dance parties, annual costume parades, and Safe Halloween, making for a Halloween full of treats for everyone.

To start the frightful festivities, Birchwood Intermediate School and Countrywood hosted their Halloween parties, welcoming families and students to come dressed in their best costumes for an evening of music, dancing, pumpkin decorating and games. It was surely a memorable night for our youngest tricksters.

On the morning of Halloween at Oakwood, hundreds of costumed children led a huge parade outside on the Primary Center’s back field where parents lined along the edges to get the perfect picture of their little monsters. Thank you to the Stimson Middle School Band who played a perfect set as the children marched on a number of times to ensure that everyone was able to enjoy their incredible costumes. Countrywood’s annual Halloween Parade brought delight and laughter to our staff, students, and parents as well. Thank you to Band Director Mr. Matt Hoffman and the Walt Whitman Wind Ensemble for providing festive music for the students to march to.

With Trunk-or-Treating becoming a much loved Halloween event, Oakwood and Maplewood took to their parking spots to host the treat seeking occasion. Over 200 students flocked to the schools’ parking lots to participate in the unique Halloween tradition. Teachers, students, and families decorated the trunks of their cars for kids to experience a unique kind of trick-or-treating while adding to their candy collection and creating new memories for Halloweens to come.

The fun continued on for our youngest trick-or-treaters, as students and their families headed to Walt Whitman High School for Safe Halloween. With decorated classrooms, treats and activities for everyone to enjoy, it was wonderful to see our district families come out for the always spirited event.

Our middle school students also celebrated the holiday in great fashion. Silas Wood hosted their Fall-Fest Party where our 6th-graders had a blast dancing to music with friends nearby and sweet snacks in hand. Seventh and eighth-graders at Stimson also took the evening to celebrate at their Halloween Dance where impressive costumes and spooky decorations made it a thrilling night.

Thank you to all of our district’s school buildings for making this Halloween the most memorable one yet!
