Foster Grandparents Pair Perfectly with South Huntington Students

The Foster Grandparent Program is a national program established in 1965 for the purpose of pairing senior citizens with students to enhance the quality of life of children and youth in pre-schools and public school settings.

Grandparents involved with the program have a caring manner that can provide just the right amount of motivation to a student, a warm smile and tender words that can make the difference between a sad day and a happy one, and they have their own set of strategies to improve a student’s performance.

The district’s Foster Grandparent Program currently has 6 South Huntington “grandparents” who provide support in reading, assistance with projects, games and assist daily with classroom routines.  We are grateful to these caring individuals who provide encouragement, help and support with a tenderness that only a grandparent can provide. We were honored to recognize these individuals at our most recent Board of Education meeting at the James Kaden Administrative Offices.

Thank you to Fran Zito and Virginia “Ginny” Cuggino who work with our students at Countrywood, Nancy Hodson and Barbara Mead who work with our students at Oakwood, and Diane Vince and Frances DeSimone who work with our students at Birchwood.

We are grateful to each of South Huntington’s Foster Grandparents for the wonderful work they do with our students!
