Dear South Huntington Families:

I hope more than ever that this email finds you and your families well.

There is not a great deal of new information to report tonight other than that our teachers are working through a virtual conference day tomorrow in order to share ideas on the best ways to keep education going during this uncertain time. I know that our faculty and staff members are feeling terribly frustrated that they are not with their students and have every confidence that they will do everything they can to make the best of a terribly difficult situation.

Our district team is also in the office on a daily basis, doing everything we can to be prepared for the moment when we can reopen and restart full-scale operations. In addition, we are working with the YMCA to provide some type of care for the children of first responders and medical personnel, and conferencing several times per day with neighboring superintendents, the Board of Health, County Executive’s office, and NYS representatives.

We are also adding a district-wide initiative to accentuate the things you will be undoubtedly doing with your classroom teachers. To this end, we created a district YouTube channel, which was the brainchild of Mr. Keogh and Ms. D’Elia. Ms. Wilkinson then organized hundreds of books, which various administrators, bus drivers, teachers, and etc. will read to you at home. This channel is completely optional and will in no way take the place of anything that you are doing with your teachers. However, the initiative gives everyone a chance to help and just might add some smiles to a difficult time.

The first story is available here and you can click on the link (https://youtu.be/r_EDe16yYhY) and hear us read about Kind People.

You can also log onto our YouTube channel and watch our content grow.

Please be well and know that I will be in touch tomorrow.
