He came here six years ago with a dream, and now Walt Whitman senior Leonardo Montoya Garcia, will take the next big step towards that dream. “I felt very welcome here, not only in the schools but the community as well,” said Leonardo. “There were a lot of opportunities to do whatever I was interested in and I’m very happy and thankful to be able to study astrophysics at Colgate University next fall. “Space has a lot to be discovered and I think could be a good future for me.”

Leonardo played soccer in the fall and last winter and this spring you can find him on the track running the 800meter and the 2mile for Whitman’s Varsity team.  “I’m very excite to attend Colgate, they seemed very helpful, and if I work hard and show drive, I feel that they will help me a lot with my goals. I love the diversity here at Whitman, you can find people from all over the world and it’s very important to learn different perspectives from different cultures.”

When asked about what he found the most challenging about his experiences at Whitman, Leonardo thought a moment and said: “with all the opportunities that are available to students here, you really need to stay focused and manage your time. You have to focus on what’s really important.”

Way to Go Leonardo Montoya Garcia!
