Founded in 1925, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association is an international student press association whose goal is to unite student journalists and faculty advisers at schools and colleges through educational conferences, idea exchanges, textbooks, critiques and award programs. CSPA released their first wave of distinctions for 2019/20 and Xanadulitmag.com received All Columbia University Honors and is the Gold Medal recipient.

Xanadulitmag.com was judged by the art, photography, level of writing of poetry and prose, and music videos based on it’s editing and formatting. It was judged on its sophistication as a website as well as its content and level of submissions. “That means this is Walt Whitman’s award,” Xanadu advisor and English Teacher Joseph Pipolo proudly shared. “This magazine and thus this award do not happen without incredible works submitted to incredible editors. This honor is a tribute of the teachers and creators involved in every explicit and implicit, obvious and nuanced element of its being. This is a celebration of the entire South Huntington Community. Xanadulitmag.com is a collective, a neighborhood were creativity hangs out. We truly believe that creation is a very powerful form of activism.”

A great credit also goes to our graduated 2018/19 editors for the incredible gallery they have left behind. The dedication and creativity of graduates Cosette Brazaeu, Katherine Gotard, Deanna Tabibzada, and Sarah Choudhary deserve to be recognized in conjunction with Columbia’s distinctions.

“An integral part of evolving as a publication is taking into account the feedback and criticism we receive,” 4 year Senior Editor in Chief Lauren Gotard expressed. “While it is truly an honor and a privilege to be recognized by an institution as prestigious as Columbia University, we value their suggestions more than any award or prize. We will continue to serve as a platform for the talented writers, artists, musicians, and creators of our school, while continuously yearning to improve our magazine and best reflect the passions of our community.”

Congratulations Xanadulitmag.com editors and contributors! We look forward to the art, poetry, prose, music, and creative products you all put forth in the future. Click here to be redirected to the award winning website.
