It was a fun evening for all who participated!

Congratulations to all who participated in last night’s Powder Puff game! It’s one of the best-attended evenings of the year, and from the looks on everyone’s faces, it's easy to see why the annual Powder Puff football game between senior and junior girls is so popular. This is truly the event that showcases Whitman spirit at its finest.

The first half of the game proved that this would be a close competition between the junior and senior girls. Coach and Assistant Principal Jon Varlamos put his best senior girls out on the field to combat Junior Coach and Principal John Murphy’s A-teams. The Junior girls didn’t make it easy for the graduating Seniors but luckily both teams and the fully packed bleachers had their tensions eased with an immensely entertaining half time show. Courtesy of our Junior and Senior boys cheerleaders, both groups put on unforgettable performances that went beyond the crowd’s expectations. With choreographed dance moves, convincing outfits and minimal wardrobe malfunctions, both routines were a sight to behold. The Junior boys took to center field first, but it was the Senior boys who took the hearts of the judges for the halftime show win.

The second half of the game continued for the girls with back and forth interceptions and touchdowns on either end of the field. Both teams put forth their best efforts, yet the junior girls prevailed with a final score of 18-30. Our juniors and seniors both had their time to shine under the lights at the end of another incredible spirit week. The festivities continue tonight under the lights as the Walt Whitman Varsity Football team takes on Patchogue-Medford at 6PM, following the Homecoming Parade at 4PM. It’s going to be another spirited evening for South Huntington!
