The Walt Whitman Marching Band season has officially begun with another successful band camp! The 4-day camp ran from Thursday August 15th to August 18th, concluding with a parent’s show that had one of the largest turnouts in recent memory. Parents and students are looking forward to the upcoming season, with highlights that include a trip to Virginia for a Bands of America Competition, where some of the best high schools in the nation compete in this division, and competitions in Lindenhurst, Manhasset, Huntington, and Central Islip. They with also have a home show at Walt Whitman entitled "Battle of the Bands."

Currently the WWHS Marching Band has 57 members. "I am most excited for all our kids to have the best experience possible,” shared Marching Band Director Greg Modelewski. “This senior class is special and we want to not only give them, but the entire band an experience they will never forget!”

Color guard Director Euni Shim is also very excited about the enthusiasm and the effort every member has put in. "The growth of the color guard has exceeded expectations and I hope it will continue throughout the season!"

Assistant Director Sean Lucas has been impressed thus far with the direction the band is heading. "This is the youngest group I have ever worked with and they continue to perform and learn at an incredible rate."

The show is entitled Mozart...Remixed. It is a mix of music from the classical time of Mozart with a bit of sound effects from 2019. We are excited to see what the WWHS Marching Band has in store for this year as they perform the well-known classics with modern twists!
