Walt Whitman High School has always had a very strong and active theater program. That was once again proven at the 2019 Hunting-Tony Awards, with three of our students taking home top awards. Graduating senior Max Fisher won Best Featured Actor in a Musical as “Robertson Ay & Neleus” in Mary Poppins, junior Janna Garden won Best Featured Actress in a Musical as “Miss Andrew” in Mary Poppins, and sophomore Brendan Kispert won Best Actor in a Musical as “Bert” in Marry Poppins. Whitman's theater program also received recognition for Best Stage Crew for “Noises off,” and was also recognized for Best Costumes in a Musical in Marry Poppins.

“I am beyond proud of my cast, crew, pit and staff for Noises Off and Mary Poppins. Both productions were complicated on and off stage and everyone far exceeded my expectations,” shared advisor Mrs. Susan Radin. “The brilliant, immeasurable dedication and relentless hard work demonstrated by all involved in these productions was awe-inspiring. They were truly fabulous! We are very grateful to Mr. Murphy and Dr. Bloom for their unwavering support of our theatrical endeavors.” All of these students are very active on and off stage. Between sports and their involvement in various honor societies, Max, Janna, and Brendan have become very well rounded students. Congratulations on this exciting award!
