Congratulations to the three young women who were celebrated recently at the James Kaden Administrative Offices for the annual Military Recognition Breakfast. These three ladies have done so many great things while in school and are about to go off and do great things while serving our nation. Isabel Aquilino is joining the US Marine Corps, Julia Chiusano is joining the US Navy, and Katelyn Erthal is joining the US Air Force.

Isabel, who is known for pushing herself both in and outside of school, is preparing every day to be a Marine. She keeps herself in shape, working with a personal trainer frequently while also studying for the US Marine Corps occupational test. When asked why she wanted to join the Marines, Isabel responded with “I want to be active in my community and in the country and better my leadership. This is something that I’ve wanted to do since I was a little girl.” Isabel is very excited to start this next chapter of her life, as she will be enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation.

When asked about Julia, her teachers describe her as a person whose compassion and sense of empathy transcend above all others. Julia has dedicated her time at Whitman to encouraging students, emanating a positive influence on those around her. She has been a consummate student while being involved in Navy based activities, studying rules, marches, the Soldier’s Creed and participating in intensive work-outs. Her grandfather, who was in the Army, is a big reason for her joining the Navy. Julia shared that she has always liked boats and that it is a dream of hers to be out on the water. Upon her graduation, Julia will be enlisting in the Navy.

During her four years at Walt Whitman, Katelyn has truly defined herself as a leader amongst her class. She has continually tried to get the most out of her academic experiences, achieving Principal’s List in her Senior Year. Her high academic stature has also allowed her to be inducted into both the English and National Honor Societies. Katelyn knew from a young age that she wanted to be in the Air Force and since then has been involved in community-based groups and activities focused on providing civic engagement and volunteerism such as the Civil Air Patrol. A classmate of hers said that she remembers Katelyn writing a report on being in the Military and flying planes in the third grade. “Her love of flying” she says, “comes from her Dads passion for it, as he flies planes as a hobby.” Upon graduation, Katelyn will be enlisting in the Air Force National Guard.

Isabel, Julia, and Katelyn all are on the road to do great things as they serve our great nation. These young ladies are very talented and motivated towards attaining their goals and have sincerely made the district and their families very proud.
