Birchwood fifth-grader Lucien Saint Cyr was in the spotlight at Wednesday’s Board of Education meeting to receive an award for his selfless efforts to help others in desperate need. Lucien is working with Yam Community Resource, Inc., a local non-profit dedicated to providing services to the underserved population in the Haitian community, persons with disability, and the elderly.

The medical clinic in Haiti was during our February school break and Lucien, a member of Birchwood’s Student Council and Student Based Management Team was determined to make a difference by gathering donations to purchase medical supplies that were destined for the town of Aquin.

“We are honored to recognize Birchwood student Lucien Saint Cyr who made our district proud by organizing a charity that collected a variety of medical supplies for a clinic in the town of Aquin, Haiti,” said BOE President Nick Ciappetta in his Board Meeting Video recap (available on the District Website). “The supplies that Lucien collected will help treat over 300 patients each day and we are incredibly proud of this very special civic-minded young man.”
