“During the next several weeks we plan to highlight qualities of our New York State Teacher of the Year candidates.” – Frank Fallon, South Huntington Personnel Administrator.

Countrywood’s Patti Burr is a second-grade teacher who is described by colleagues as “…hardworking and dedicated…” She cares about students’ social, emotional and academic needs. Colleagues point to her work ethic, preparing instructional activities until the late evening hours. They highlight her work in the school fundraising for charities, such as Ronald McDonald House, Pennies for Patients, Caps for Kids and others.

A former student wrote her a testimonial. He stated, “… thanks for helping me shape up and become mature. You’ve been my favorite teacher and still are…”

A former parent writes that Mrs. Burr, “…treats her students as if they were her own children and wants to give them opportunities to explore their personal creative talents…her priority was to help my daughter succeed…”

Another former student wrote, “…You are such an influential person in my life. You were the person that allowed me to realize my dream of becoming a teacher… (you) created a safe and welcoming environment for all students.

We welcome the community to join us on Wednesday January 30th at 7:30 PM in Walt Whitman’s Performing Arts Center to celebrate and honor all of our candidates and to announce with great pride our district-wide teacher of the year.
