“During the next several weeks we plan to highlight qualities of our New York State Teacher of the Year candidates.” – Frank Fallon, South Huntington Personnel Administrator.

Oakwood’s Crystal Levey began as a Special Education teacher before becoming a Behavioral Specialist. According to her colleagues, she has high expectations for students and seeks methods and resources to accommodate each and every child. Crystal supports students through compassion, structure, and love.

One parent, whose child worked with Ms. Levey, reported that she heard her child speaking to another child about Ms. Levey. He stated, “…You should really listen to her, she knows what she is talking about…” Another of her students reported that Ms. Levey, “…is a great teacher and makes a difference in her students’ lives every day. She is kind and is always happy to spend time talking with me…”

Ms. Levey has organized “Mindfulness Training” for the school and has exhibited leadership in other professional development and school activities for faculty.

We welcome the community to join us on Wednesday, January 30th at 7:30 PM in Walt Whitman’s Performing Arts Center to celebrate and honor all of our candidates and to announce with great pride our district-wide teacher of the year.
