We are very fortunate in South Huntington to enjoy vibrant partnerships with community members and support groups who give selflessly to our schools.  We saw a perfect example of that powerful connection last week as John J. Safarik and Bob Vanderburgh of the Elks National Foundation Lodge 1565 in Huntington, along visited Birchwood to donate dictionaries for each of our third-graders.

Of course, the donation quickly turned into a learning experience as the students accepted challenges, such as locating the longest word in the English language.  Birchwood third-graders accepted this special donation from our community with gratitude and bright smiles.

Who are the Elks? Elks invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, by undertaking projects that address unmet need, and by honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans.

We thank our friends at the Elks Lodge for supporting South Huntington and caring so deeply for our students.
