Seniors Megan Neumann, Maxwell Fisher, Gabriel Safien, and Jaycee Cardoso have been selected to this years NYSSMA 2018 Winter Conference that will be held from November 29th thru December 2nd in Rochester, NY.

Megan and Max had their close-up in the previous story about their selection to the Nationals. Senior flute and piccolo player Gabriel Safien who will be competing in the state competition feels this honor to be an accumulation of all the hard work she’s put into music and that “it’s truly gratifying to be able to share the hard work with others and being able to work with other great musicians.”  Gabriel is interested in studying biochemistry or philosophy at Yale after graduating from Walt Whitman. As a senior, she believes that Whitman is more than just a school as it has provided her many opportunities to both learn and have fun that has allowed her continuing growth.

For senior Jaycee Cardoso, playing the violin in the state competition this November means being able to meet new people and perform music with those of similar passions. At Whitman, Jaycee loves to be a part of the pit orchestra as he appreciates being involved in such a tight-knit community.  “Being able to work with the cast and crew from the musical productions has been one of the many rewarding experiences for me at Walt Whitman High School.”
