Walt Whitman’s National Merit Commended students Ashar Farooq, Gabrielle Safian and Zachary Slansky were honored this past Wednesday morning for their high achievement on the PSAT. “It is evident that since an early age these seniors have identified themselves as students in the forefront of academic excellence and we are very proud of them,” said Whitman Principal John Murphy.

More than two-thirds (about 34,000) of the approximately 50,000 national high scorers on the PSAT receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.  “It really is an honor to have so many of Whitman best and brightest acknowledged for their academic fortitude and prowess at a national level,” said Principal Murphy. “The three students selected this year to receive this accolade are all similar in their academic pursuits but add to the diversity of Walt Whitman High School through their various interests and activities. They are what we hope all students at WWHS strive to become.”
